Spiritual Awareness

Spiritual Awareness

The Spiritual Awareness group meets on Thursdays at 10:30 am in the small chapel.

Members share and listen to each others’ “faith story” and how they see God working in their lives, most especially in the week that has passed. Meetings begin and end with prayer. Each person may share if they wish. Sometimes we just come to listen.

The prayer we use is: “Come Holy Spirit; fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and we shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth. Oh God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful; grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy your consolations. Amen.”

We have been meeting as a group for several years. The membership remains in a state of flux as people come and go. It is open to both men and women, and attendance each week is not required. Come when you can.

Over the years we have developed a keen sense of intimacy and trust. We are sharing the most precious part of ourselves, which is our spiritual journey. We ask that “what is said in the room, stays in the room.” We are accepting of where we all are on the journey; we don’t try to “fix” anyone’s theology or be critical of any beliefs. It truly is an opportunity to share in a respectful environment.

We’re not a prayer group, although we pray for each other; we are not a support group, although we support each other. Sharing our spirituality is our purpose.

We can guarantee that you will be welcomed by the group. Please come and give us a try! For more information, please contact Susan Reeves at susankreeves@att.net.

Radical Hospitality

Radical Hospitality

Our Radical Hospitality group warmly welcomes newcomers to worship and to the community of our church. Members greet, bake and deliver bread to guests, and work to connect newcomers to groups and ministries in our church. We are intentionally inclusive, welcoming, respectful and nurturing.
Greeter welcomes you to St.Martin-in-Fields Episcopal Church
We have a team of greeters who strive to make our visitors welcome as they enter our doors. The congregation as a whole extends a warm welcome when we “pass the peace” during the service. A greeter or another member of the congregation endeavors to escort our guests to the parish hall for refreshments following the service; our Coffee Hour is a time of meeting and greeting in a relaxed, family atmosphere.
All are welcome at Christ’s table.  Helpful instructions are given to make our guests comfortable in coming forward to receive Holy Communion or a blessing.
Members of the Bread Ministry deliver freshly-baked bread and information about St. Martin’s to guests who fill out a Communication Card found in the back of the pew. The delivery is most often made on the Sunday afternoon of the guest’s visit.
We follow up with welcoming emails and postal letters and calls to our guests. Requests for information by our guests are given to the appropriate ministry leader so that answers can be provided as quickly as possible. We add newcomers to our Contstant Contact mailing list and church database and order nametags.
All members of the congregation are automatically part of the Radical Hospitality team. The responsibilities are easy to fulfill. Speak to your neighbor at the peace; walk across the aisle and shake the hand of someone you don’t know. All you have to say is, “The Peace of the Lord.”

Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. ~Romans 15:7
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. ~Peter 4:8-9
We ought therefore to show hospitality to such people so that we may work together for the truth. ~3 John 1:8

Get Involved: Like to meet new people and provide a warm welcome? Have we got a deal for you! Greeters serve one Sunday a month for about 30 minutes before the service and 30 minutes after the service. It is a truly rewarding experience. We are always looking to expand the team. Band of Moms

Band of Moms

Please join us

  • First Sundays at noon at a local restaurant
  • 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays at noon in the large parish hall
  • Fifth Sundays – no meeting
  • To get on the mailing list and for meeting location, please sign up using the button below.

Band of Moms is a group of mothers of every age group – babies, toddlers, tweens & teens, young adults, failure to launch…it’s for all moms. As joyous as the season of raising children is, it is also one of the most challenging times in a woman’s life. For that reason, a safe space is provided for moms to communicate with each other.

Potluck

At Band of Moms, childcare is always provided. Each meeting includes a potluck & discussion. Bring a brunch dish to share if you can, come anyway if you can’t! There is always enough food! We’ll sit & talk about everything and anything and we’ll listen to one another. Sometimes as moms, all we really want is adult conversation and someone to listen. We always end in prayer. Come as you are. We form strong friendships as we grow together in faith and support one another on this walk.

Discussion

We really strive to make this a safe place for moms to pour their hearts out to and feel comfortable in knowing that they are never alone. We eat breakfast, drink coffee, then talk about about the Gospel for the week. We talk about our own experiences & how we get through them, and celebrate the blessings and wins, which are many!

Support

We have seen each other through cancer, surgeries, behavioral diagnoses, anxiety, depression, pregnancy, birth, the loss of loved ones, and the list goes on. The big thing we always remember is that what happens in our group, stays in our group, and we all are fiercely committed to protecting the privacy of one another.

Meetings are on Sundays at noon in the Large Parish Hall and at a restaurant once a month. Our annual celebrations, Christmas parties and special occasion dates will be determined as a group.

Altar Guild

Altar Guild

Altar Guild teams, working under the direction of the clergy, prepare for the celebration of the Eucharist or any of the other sacraments of the church, including baptisms, weddings and funerals. They also take care of the vessels, vestments, linens, and acolyte equipment.
At our church, the altar guild is divided into four teams. Each team assumes responsibility for the worship services for a whole week, including Saturday, Sunday, weekday services, and weddings and funerals during the week. Team members prepare the altar before each service, clean the altar area after each service, and care for the linens and vestments. The guild holds two major meetings a year, prior to Holy Week and Christmas. Together they review the details of these busy times, socialize, and sometimes have a guest speaker. All members work together during Holy Week and Christmas to share the work and get to know people on the other teams.
Join us and learn about this great ministry, open to men and women, that has been in existence for centuries. If you are looking for a ministry that will truly and humbly serve the Lord, please contact our clergy or one of the Altar Guild directors, Linda Seeber at rwseeber@sbcglobal.net or Jean Freitag at jhfrei@mac.com.

Sisters of the Spirit

Sisters of the Spirit

About Sisters of the Spirit

Sisters of the Spirit (SOS) is for women who are interested in exploring their faith through book discussion. The group meets on Mondays from 1-2 pm in the small parish hall or by Zoom. SOS also occasionally goes to the movies together in place of a weekly meeting, or even has the occasional outing or party!

Kerry Angle, the group’s leader, sends out weekly emails to the SOS group regarding upcoming events. To get on the group email, send Kerry a message at kerryiscute64@gmail.com.

The focus of Sisters of the Spirit is around the book that the group is reading. Sisters of the Spirit does not have a designated facilitator, but the group reads and discusses chapters at a mutually-determined pace. Anyone who finds they would be interested in the book that is going to be read is encouraged to get a book and join in. Not everyone is on board for every book, and the group loves to have new people and to hear new points of view.

You can also join the conversation on Zoom! Please email Kerry Angle at kerryiscute64@gmail.com & she’ll add you to the call.

Meeting on Zoom these days!

Sisters of the Spirit

Sisters of the Spirit invite you

Movie outing!

Books are determined by a recommendation by group members, and the group votes on which book to read next. Books range from those found in the theology section of a bookstore, to fiction or non-fiction that might be on the New York Times best seller list. All of these books have something to teach, and members share their understanding with one another as to what they mean to them. Some books are very light reading, some delve into deep and emotional subjects and some are classics that were read many years ago, but were felt to probably have a different lesson to teach as they are read now.

Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.
Proverbs 1:5

All of the rooms are being cleaned out and Serin is winding down the remaining activities.  After Serin leaves we will plan a deep cleaning and paint rooms in the future and re-purpose them for church use later on.  The fridges have all been cleaned out.
The board is prayerful and wants to remain very sensitive to the staff and leaders especially during the closing, this is a loss for many.
The church audit is scheduled for July 25th (Saturday), this will take place BNSF where the areas are controlled and safe for the tasks.
Gary reported that we are still having issues with breeze and will discuss whether we want to continue with is at the next finance committee meeting.
It has been reported that tithes are being stolen out of the church mailbox, with the absence of church staff members.  Over $1,600.00 and 4-5 family’s donations have been affected.
We all agreed to open up a PO box in Keller and have the parishioners start mailing them to the PO box vs the outside mailbox at the church.  Seeber suggested a secure mailbox with a key instead and several vestry members said if someone wants to break into it bad enough, they will.
The PO box will be opened as soon as possible.
Treasurer’s Report
All were given copies of the budget and treasures report.  The focus was on month expenses and unrestricted funds.  Things are status quo for now, pledges are continuing.
Pemberton asked if the PPE funds were listed as a liability on the financial statements in the event we have to pay the unused portion back, and it is.
Treasurer’s Report Approved
Mitchell moved for the vestry to accept the July treasures report, approved by all as distributed.
Stewardship Report
Members are the Very Rev. Ron Pogue, Becky Snell, Brandy Heckle, Suzanne Loyack and Lesli Pemberton.

The committee would like to meet with the vestry to discuss Past, Present and future conversations regarding the life of the church.  Possible dates for this to occur will follow.
The committee will undergo STAR training in September after the conversations are over.
The drone flyover is still in the works, the website updates are still ongoing.
Curate Report
Paula Jefferson is continuing to head up the Pastoral Care team.  Many calls are being made weekly.
The online prayer zoom meetings have been very successful and will continue.  We were all encouraged to attend if possible.
Jefferson is working on full curriculum for the future as well as a book study, one option could be Harry Potter Prayer for seekers.  The kick off on new curriculum will be the Sunday after labor day.
A zoom movie night is being considered for kids age 8-12.
Junior Warden update:
We will bring out an electrician to run power to the security cameras to help with possible break ins.  Sutton suggested we do a better job of hiding the wires, they could be easily cut.
The whole system needs to be desperately upgraded.
Special thanks for Snell for adding the chimes back to the prayer garden.
The roof is still leaking and is slowly becoming a problem.  When the sound team was running wires for the steaming services, they noticed the insulation is wet.
The cleaning crew has improved with the attention to detail.
The question was asked about the raised beds, they have been approved.  As a side note, the holy mowers have been in touch with the scout group and Father Ron to review the needs and to discuss any potential pit falls.

Father Ron assured the vestry that the reentry process is has been submitted to the Bishop and will require his approval.  We need to be patient, the Bishop is working through all the plans for all churches in the diocese.

Consideration of Vestry Minutes from previous meetings:
Minutes from the May 17, 2020 meeting were approved as distributed.
Finance Committee Report and School update:
Gary Wilkinson brought us up to speed on the School Board Meeting held June 23, 2020.and the work done on last years budget.  At the time of the meeting there could be 30 possible students, could be the maximum of 54 but they have no way of knowing how many will return.
With the increased time to clean and sterilize the school during COVID-19, being able to keep the kids segregated from one another and assuring they do not intermingle is a big challenge
If 54 students do not enroll for the fall session our school and church will sustain major losses.  After much prayer and consideration over the health and welfare of the children, Serin Stanford and Gary Wilkinson want to present to the Vestry a vote to permanently close the school.
Haynes said it does send mixed messages that we are trying to start school but will not re-open church.
The vote to close the school was nominated by the School Board, Mullaney seconded and all approved.
The vestry extends its thanks for all the hard work they put in, we know this decision was tough.
Treasurer’s Report
All were given copies of the budget and treasures report.  Everything is going according to budget and pledges are continuing.  DJ suggested we send a letter out to the congregation keeping everyone up to date on where we are during the shutdown.
Mitchell reminded us that the audit deadline is by the end of July and is due to the dioceses by September.

Mitchell moved for the vestry to accept the July through December budget, Mullaney seconded, all approved.
A resolution was presented by Father Ron for Paula Jefferson to become our new curate as approved buy the Bishop.  Bess seconded, all approved.
Rector Search Committee Report
Sue Mitchell provided the update on the search committee.  They met on June 21st.  The deadline for the church wide survey is June 30th.  It will take them two weeks to analyze the data and the results will be delivered online.
The profile is on hold waiting on the survey results.  The committed has a goal for the profile to be ready for a first view on August 31st.
The committee will undergo STAAR training to help with the interviewing process.
The vestry sends its thanks for all of the hard work the search committee has put in on this.   The pandemic makes planning very difficult and you all have our prayers.
Junior Warden update:
The roof is leaking in the office area.  It really needed attention a few years ago and is about 15-20 years old.  The ceiling tiles are starting to show damage They will get an inspection and let us know what it takes to fix it.
The cleanliness of the church is starting to decline, Father Ron will have a discussion with Anika and have her start supervising the work as it is being done.  It was brought to the vestrys attention that we need to look into a new agreement with the vendor.
The outer door is still having issues with swelling when it rains.
The holy mowers are doing a fantastic job on the grounds and we thank you for all the hard work and care that goes into this ministry.
The labyrinth needs to be resurfaced, the expected cost will be around $500-600 and only needs to be done every 3 years.
The Eagle scouts would like to do a project of raised beds to grow food for the needy,  We all agree this would be a great project during the pandemic.  The Scouts will present the idea to the outreach committee then present the plan to the vestry for approval.
The resurfacing project was motioned by Bess for approved, Bess for approval and seconded by Mullaney, all approved.
Senior Warden update:
Nothing new to report by Haynes.
