In her sermon this week, seminarian Paula Jefferson discusses the Gospel reading. Jesus says “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Paula talks about bread in not just a physical sense, but also as a divine metaphor. In her pilgrimage to the Middle East, Paula was exposed to many different cultures whose greeting custom was the same: breaking bread together. Through the sharing of bread, communities are formed.
Paula also talks of breadcrumb trails…the ones that Jesus has left us that lead us into deeper relationships with God. She asks us to look at the breadcrumbs that God has left for us here at St. Martin’s, and to discern what that means for us as a community and for our ministries.
