Vision and Mission Statements are complete!

Hoo-ray! Yippee! Alleluia!

We have completed the proposed Vision and Mission Statements that are an essential part of our rector search. Thanks to contributions and discussions by many people of all ages in this faith community.

Vision Statement for St. Martin-in-the-Fields:

St. Martin-in-the-Fields is an open and accepting community where the love of Jesus lives and transforms through worship, education, fellowship and service in our church and in the world.

This is a statement of what is possible, the picture of the future you want to create for the community we wish to impact. With this statement, we can ask ourselves, “have we done our ministry and work in a way that will move our vision forward?”

Mission Statement for St. Martin-in-the-Fields:

Following the example of Jesus Christ, our mission is to be Christ’s hands and feet to our neighbors no matter where they are on their journey of faith.

Our mission will turn our vision into practice. The Mission Statement is the one that will actually do the work. With this statement, we can ask ourselves, “have we done our ministry and work in a way that monitors to ensure we really are accomplishing our mission?”

I ask you to take time and ponder these statements and bring your thoughts to our gathering this Sunday, December 1 at 9:30 a.m. We will take some time and make sure these are statements this parish can live with as well as live out.

Starting this Sunday, December 1, we will also begin work on our values statement. This will provide us a guide to living out our Vision and Mission statements.

Values Statement:

The only way we can create an amazing future for this faith community is if we do our ministry and work in a way that reflects universally shared values. With this statement, we can ask ourselves, “have we done our work in a way that adheres to the universally shared values at the core of our Values Statement?”

I hope that we will finish our values statement before Christmas. We then can begin work on our Parish Profile. The profile will articulate how we are living into our Vision, Mission and Values Statements as well as what we hope the future will hold for St. Martin-in-the-Fields both in terms of challenges and opportunities and a new rector.

After the first of the year, we will then move into offering Adult Education classes for those adults wishing to be confirmed/received or wanting to learn more about what it means to be part of the Episcopal church. We will also be working on enhancing the ministries of our various organizations and how to live and move and be in this amazing and constantly changing technological age we live in. And we will be also offering opportunities to identify and enhance your spiritual gifts for the building up of the Body of Christ and the world.

Come and see and contribute to what is in store for this amazing faith community named St. Martin-in-the-Fields!

Our Heavenly God,
you who are Spirit and Truth
you are providing for this church
faces, feet and hands
a voice, a vision and mission.

Open our eyes to see your face
and then we will see the faces of our sisters and brothers,
the smooth faces of innocent babes
and the nobly wizened faces of our elders—
for to see your face is to recognize the face
of the one we call stranger
as well as members of our faith community
all of whom you call your own.

Open our eyes to see your hands
and then we shall see the hands
of those who touch our lives in the flesh,
the physician who heals, the lover who comforts
and the friend who tells us we belong here.

Open our ears to hear your voice as we gather
and we will hear the truth that will set us free and on our way.
As the wind moves the trees across our fields,
so may the voice of your Spirit move our spirits
and blow away from our eyes the dust of illusions
that makes our world look grey.
May its breeze fill our lungs with new life.
May your Spirit reveal the liberating truth and vision to us this day
and when we are able to see these things, our God
we will have cause to praise you
for you have given us good things to fill our lives
and you have given your truth to set us free and on our way
and a vision in our hearts to enable us to see
this faith community through your eyes.
