Toy drive for homeless children

As we look towards the fast-approaching holidays, we often reflect on our blessings. Our hearts and minds drift towards the manger, that starry night and we anticipate the celebration of Christ coming into the world. It’s a time to respond with love by giving to those in need. Let’ s help homeless children who are finding a new start at Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County (UGM) have a brighter Christmas.

How you can help

Donate new, unwrapped toys at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and School starting on October 24. This drive ends on December 6 to make sure the toys get to homeless children at UGM in time for the holidays, so donate early.

Important dates to remember

  • toy drive starts on Saturday, October 24
  • toy drive ends on Sunday, December 6

List of  toys

Do you need help selecting a toy for a child?  Here is a toy wish list by ages 2015.

Would you like to provide a toy for the playground at UGM? Here is a list of some outdoor toys wish list 2015 for their outdoor space. Two or three families or individuals might join together and buy an outdoor toy together.

There is also a need for educational toys like Leap pads and other electronic, hand-held toys or wooden puzzles that would remain at UGM for children to play with as they try to settle in at the mission.

Is this the angel tree? Are we doing that?

This year we are responding to an urgent need at Union Gospel Mission, but not with a gifts listed on tags on a Christmas tree and a collection just in time for Christmas. UGM is opening up a new children and family wing on their campus, opening their doors even wider to share the love of Christ with homeless families. UGM wants to provide new toys for each child and to offer more riding toys and outdoor toys for their playground. UGM also needs some toys that will stay on the UGM campus that will help children feel comforted and settled at the mission. The need is great, but with an early start and early December 6 finish we can help UGM with the launch of their family wing.  Prayerfully consider how you can welcome the Christ child by offering a gift to make things better for children in tough situations right here in Tarrant County.
