“The Commuter Bridge” © Shawn Rees

Shawn Rees was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and moved here with his family for work in 1986. He has been a member of St. Martin’s since then, learning about the Episcopal faith, raising his children here, and becoming an integral member of the parish. He eventually met Jan Hardy, and they married in 2010. Shawn has stayed here at St. Martin’s because “the people here are supportive and caring.” Before Parkinson’s disease affected his life, he was a member of the Vestry, the Green Team, a chalice bearer and a reader. Currently he is in the choir and participates in Spiritual Awareness. Shawn has donated several of his paintings to the church, and they can be seen scattered throughout the buildings. He chose to share “The Commuter Bridge” for the simple fact that it is one of his favorites. Shawn had never in his life picked up a paintbrush before being diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He paints now as part of therapy, but it is obvious that God has blessed him with this wonderful talent.
