Stewardship Reflection- A responsibility & a blessing
by Rhonda Ackley
My favorite prayer comes from The Order of the Daughters of the King. It sums up beautifully how I feel about stewardship. It goes as follows:
I am but one; but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I ought to do.
What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.
Lord, what wilt thou have me do?
I feel that I am lucky and blessed. I can walk, talk, and give hugs to a family who loves and relies on me. I have a warm home and a garden that I can enjoy.
I want to give back what I can. I feel an obligation to help and that has led me to be a volunteer at St. Martins. I see stewardship as both a responsibility and a privilege to give back some of the blessings that have been bestowed on me. I know that often stewardship is seen as a monetary request, but for me it is more about time and talents and sometimes just being there to hold or carry something or to lend an ear to someone who needs to talk.
