The balm of lament

**There were technical difficulties with our video this weekend. Please enjoy the audio of Father Christopher’s sermon.

In his sermon this week, the Rev. Christopher Thomas sings the hymn, “O Divine Redeemer” by Charles Gounod. It is a lamentation, an expression of grief or sorrow, as our first reading from Jeremiah is also. Father Chris talks about the importance of lamenting. It is allowing ourselves to openly express our grief over tragedy, allowing ourselves to let go of that grief by sharing it with God and our community. Lament is the “balm in Gilead.” God grieves with us when we grieve and God will not let us suffer alone.
