Missing the point

In his sermon this week, Rev. Ayo Omoniyi discusses the gospel reading. In it, Jesus heals a woman on the sabbath day, and is ridiculed by the church leaders for “breaking the rules.” But Jesus countered by pointing out their own hypocrisies. Deacon Ayo asks us to think about what is more important, following “the rules,” or treating others with compassion when we see their need? The greatest commandments are to love God, and to love your neighbors as yourselves. These two “rules” outweigh any others. Deacon Ayo tells us not to become obsessed with obeying the rules, but instead, remember to do the right thing.
