Hannah’s Song

In his sermon this week, The Rev. Christopher Thomas talks about identity. He talks about how identifying the obvious helps us to understand the world. But what if we don’t fit in to any kind of preconceived understanding or identity? Hannah was barren, and though it made others uncomfortable around her, she simply would not accept her barrenness. She persisted, and eventually gave birth to the great Samuel. Father Christopher relates this story to those we see around us today that do not fit into identifiable boxes. People who don’t look into the mirror every day knowing that they fit. People who may make others uncomfortable because they do not fit our understanding of the world. Here at St. Martin’s all are welcome; we need to keep singing that song.
