The Rev. Christopher Thomas weaves a wonderful and humorous story this week about the fantasy of winning the lottery. The current amount – $1.6 billion – is such an unimaginably infinite number. But what happens when you start to look at the reality of it? Infinite becomes finite. In this week’s Old Testament reading, Job confronts God with righteous indignation, only to have God remind him that God is infinite – Job is finite. The point? Let God take care of creation – you can simply enjoy being the created. You’ve already won the lottery – why wait to be generous?
