The Prayer Shawl ministry continues to wrap others in love with gifts of prayer shawls, chemo caps, and sleeping mats. On Sunday, October 8, this energetic ministry presented 19 shawls, 35 chemo caps, and 16 sleeping mats to be blessed. The next day, ministry members delivered 30 chemo caps and 3 shawls to John Peter Smith Cancer Care and 20 sleeping mats to Union Gospel Mission.
Sleeping mats for the homeless are made from plastic shopping bags, so please bring plastic grocery bags to the church office anytime during office hours or to any service. It takes 500-750 bags to create one mat. Bags are cut a certain way and connected together, thus turned into yarn to be woven.
Can you help the Prayer Shawl Ministry by donating yarn? Bring it to church. Ministry members, who meet weekly on Thursdays at 1 pm in the chapel to knit, crochet and catch up with each other, will transform your yarn into a love-filled gift for someone.
Want to get involved? The ministry eagerly welcomes new members, including newbies who don’t know how to knit or crochet. You don’t have to come to weekly meetings to be involved, either – many of the members knit from home. Contact Kathy Wilkinson at laughkath@gmail.com if you have questions!
