Mary Beth Butler
MaryBeth was born in Houston to a family of Episcopalians, and grew up at Ascension Church, where she was an acolyte and nursery worker. She completed two English degrees at Texas A&M University, and has served on vestries at St. Francis, College Station and Annunciation, Lewisville. She loves being a part of St. Martin’s, a place where newcomers are made to feel part of the family. The intergenerational nature of many of our activities is very important to her.
MaryBeth served as a delegate to Diocesan Convention and serves at the altar as worship leader, chalice bearer, and acolyte. She is also a Lay Eucharistic Visitor, a role she’s had in each church she’s attended as an adult. She has completed two years of Education for Ministry, and looks forward to completing the rest soon!
She retired in 2016 from the State of Texas after a satisfying career in international education. Now she works with her husband and son in their family business, STRIPES Parking Lot Service, Inc. Eventually she hopes to return to school for a Master of Social Work degree and do hospice work. She loves to read, cook, knit, play with her two Lhasa Apso dogs and her toddler granddaughters. She is a founding board member of RevGalBlogPals, a nonprofit group that supports women in ordained ministry. MaryBeth is one of the Vestry’s liaisons to the welcome ministries.
