Glenda Morehead is Clerk of the Vestry. The Vestry has elected her to observe and record their decisions and actions. She is grateful for the opportunity they have given her. She also serves at the altar of St-Martin-in-the-Fields, feeling privileged to see the faces of the people as they approach the communion rail – the smiling faces, those filled with pain or sorrow, those faces filled with awe at the mystery they are about to experience, the fidgety children who nonetheless are comfortable knowing they are welcome at the rail.
“You are a child of God. You are welcome here” was the message of the Episcopal Church when Glenda brought her family into the Church over 40 years ago. “You are a child of God. You are welcome here” was also the message of St-Martin-in-the-Fields when she arrived at its doors 14 years ago. If she could greet all who come through those doors today – both members and newcomers – she would say, “May you always know here the joy of discovery, the warmth of a real church home and the freedom that comes from complete acceptance.” Amen.
