William DeShay C. Jackson is a motivated, enthusiastic scholar of music and theology, with a passion for education and interest in active engagement in student learning. He is an instructor, performer and collaborator, and he strives to make music an enjoyable experience for everyone.
DeShay is from New London, MO (about 7 miles south of Hannibal, MO) and is a fourth-generation Disciple of Christ. In December 2017, he completed a degree in Music Education from Culver-Stockton College with an emphasis in Piano and Voice. He studied voice with Dr. Elliot Jones and Ms. Christine Armistead, and piano with Dr. Dylan Marney and the late Dr. Anda Zirnitis.
During his time at Culver-Stockton College, DeShay was musically involved with the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Camerata 808 Ensemble, Collegiate Choir, and Concert Choir. His off-campus activities included performances with the Quincy Concert Band, Quincy Community Theatre, Union Avenue Opera Company in St. Louis, MO, Big River Swing Machine in Quincy, IL, and the Bullis-Rutter Big Band in Keokuk, IA. While completing his degree, he served as choir director and pianist for the Canton Christian Church for four years.
DeShay is a first year Master of Divinity student seeking certificates in Black Church Studies and Gender/Sexual Justice at Brite Divinity. He is absolutely thrilled to be living within the DFW metroplex and cannot wait to see what these next few years have in store.
