Brandy and her family moved to Keller in 2001, when her husband Mark left active duty service with the United States Navy to begin a career with American Airlines as a commercial pilot.
Brandy was born in Georgia and raised Southern Baptist. During middle school she began questioning some of the church’s practices. At 14, she found The Episcopal Church and was confirmed. She and Mark met during their senior year at Vanderbilt University, and their first date was finding a local Episcopal church. Ever since, wherever the Navy sent them, they would find an Episcopal church.
After attending just one worship service at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Heckels were home. Brandy and the children started serving as acolytes and quickly became involved in the Epiphany Pageant, Vacation Bible School, and Camp Crucis. Over the years she has been involved in many of St. Martin’s ministries. She currently serves as an acolyte, lay Eucharistic minister, lector, and one of the schedulers that coordinates volunteers in church ministries. She is also involved with Sisters of the Spirit and Daughters of the King. She is passionate about living our mission to be God’s heart, hands, and feet to everyone no matter where they are on their journey of faith.
