“Once in a Blue Moon Family Movie Night and Campout” Wrap-up!

Fun was had all around last Friday night, as 12 youth including EYC and Scouts and 16 adults safely gathered together outside for the first time since March! The festivities commenced with a scavenger hunt led by Deacon Paula Jefferson to find crosses about the grounds. A total of five were located, but sources would say there are many more to be discovered!
Soon after, youth set up their tents with a chilly overnight forecast in mind, and then ate a delicious hot dog dinner, followed by a family movie: “Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit,” a big hit!
Cub Scout Pack 937 were then awarded their rank advancements, including Bobcat Rank and Cast Iron Chef (required for the 5th grade Webelos Den).
Cubmaster Christopher DeClerk led families in campfire songs, followed by choirmaster Joe Henry singing classic hymns, and Sunday school Bible leader Claire Abraham telling the beloved ghost story, “A Ghost with One Eye.”
Families then settled in camp chairs for the second movie: Disney’s “The Haunted Mansion.”
All who stayed the night braced for 37° temps! In the chilly morning, breakfast burritos hit the spot, and were topped off by a beautiful Morning Prayer service led by Deacon Paula Jefferson with youth led prayers.
Many thanks to the EYC and scout families who attended and volunteers that put in their time to carefully plan this event! We so appreciate Christopher and Aaron DeClerk for planning and for food and decorations; Storyteller extraordinaire Claire Abraham; and Jerry Burkett, who donated his movie tent and amplifier for the evening and spent much time connecting all the equipment!
