Nominations for Vestry, Convention delegates sought – are you called to serve?

Are you called to serve? Do you have a deep capacity to love, the energy and initiative or experience to face today and tomorrow, and passion for the mission of our church in our community? Do you know someone who may?

We are seeking people to serve our church in leadership positions on our Vestry and to represent our parish at the Convention of our diocese. We are doing this in a different way this year, with a Nominations Committee and questions that will give deeper insight into the candidate and the specific needs of each position. Nominees are committing to serve our congregation in a leadership capacity.

Vestry

The Vestry works to ensure our parish ministry is carried out in accordance with our parish values, mission, goals, and priorities, and according to the constitution and canons of our diocese.

According to diocesan canon title IV.7, a Vestry nominee must:

  • be a confirmed communicant in good standing of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, confirmed or received by a bishop in The Episcopal Church
  • be at least 18 years old by the date of the annual parish meeting on January 27, 2019
  • have made financial contributions in 2018 that are shown on the records of our parish.

Also according to diocesan canon title IV.7, if a Vestry nominee has served two consecutive terms, they may not be eligible for election to the Vestry until a full year has elapsed, unless filling a Vestry vacancy of fewer than two years. A Vestry member is elected to serve a three-year term.

Anyone serving on the Vestry will need Safe Church Training and a background check in accordance with the Safe Church Policy of the Diocese of Fort Worth.

Delegate

A delegate to Convention has a seat, voice, and vote for nominations, resolutions, proposal, budget, and other pertinent material at Convention.

According to diocesan canon title I.1, a diocesan Convention lay delegate and alternate must

  • be a confirmed communicant in good standing of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, confirmed or received by a bishop in The Episcopal Church
  • be at least 18 years old by the date of the first day of any meeting of the Convention

The Convention of our diocese will be November 8-9, 2019 in downtown Fort Worth. It will begin Friday about 1 pm and end about 8 pm that evening. Saturday hours will be 8:30 – 4:30. Special Conventions may also be called. Delegates are elected each year at the annual parish meeting and serve until their successors are elected.
