The Bible story of Noah is well known to most of us. There was a flood that lasted for 40 days and 40 nights. After the rain stopped, Noah sent out a dove and it returned with a freshly plucked olive leaf, and Noah knew that the flood waters were gone. Then God set a rainbow in the sky as a sign of his covenant with Noah and his descendants.
This story tells of cleansing by the water of the flood and the water in the rainbow blessing humankind.
Today, water is a resource that makes a huge difference to people, especially people in rural areas of third world countries. And there is still so much work to do! According to the Huffington Post in March, 2014, a child dies every 21 seconds from water-related disease. That’s a tremendous loss of 750,000 each year. The availability of clean water makes a life-saving difference for those who get a well to supply their community’s needs.
Will you help? Please give the gift of water, and place a donation in the copper water jug in the back of church.
We will be raising funds for Episcopal Relief and Development, the international relief and development agency of The Episcopal Church, to build wells.
