Please join us as we embark on our Lenten theme: “Walking in Jesus’ Shoes.” We invite you to use our Lenten Prayer Station to interact and familiarize yourself with “The Shoe that Grows,” which is our Lenten Outreach project. We welcome you to attend any of our Lenten Worship Services, including Stations of the Cross every Friday.

Lenten Outreach Project

The people of St. Martin’s carry the tradition of caring deeply about all God’s children, and we have many times supported people overseas, who live in the most desperate poverty. This year, we continue this tradition by raising funds to donate to The Shoe That Grows.
The Shoe that Grows
This program provides proper shoes to children who don’t have access to them. Without proper footwear, these kids are at risk of being exposed to soil-transmitted diseases and parasites that can cause illness and even death. “Over 1.5 billion people suffer from soil transmitted diseases worldwide!” We can help to provide these wonderful shoes by donating! One pair of these expandable shoes costs just $20.
Please donate to St. Martin-in-the-Fields Lenten Outreach Project Donations. Give a little, give a lot – every bit gets us closer to another pair of shoes! We’ll tally up our donations on Good Friday, and announce how many shoes we’ll be able to provide!
More about Because International & The Shoe That Grows:

In 2007, our founder Kenton Lee traveled to Nairobi, Kenya after graduating college. He lived and worked at a small orphanage with some incredible kids. One day, he was walking down a dusty road with all the kids when he noticed a little girl in a white dress walking next to him. As he looked down at her feet, he was shocked to see how small her shoes were. They were so small that she had to cut open the front of her shoes to let her toes stick out. That was the day that Kenton thought:
What if there was a shoe that could adjust and expand its size?
What if there was a shoe that could grow?
And the idea for The Shoe That Grows™ was born.
It took Kenton and a group of friends back in their hometown in Idaho more than six years to take this idea and turn it into a reality. But they finally did it; they made The Shoe That Grows—a shoe that grows five sizes and lasts for years.
They started the nonprofit organization Because International™ to serve as the structure to get The Shoe That Grows to as many kids as possible who are in desperate need of footwear to protect their feet. This was always meant to be a small hobby for Kenton and his friends. It was something they were passionate about, but they never dreamed it would be the worldwide cause and movement that it is today.

Lenten Prayer Station

Lent is a time to reflect on what keeps us from being close to God, and a time for movement toward God by growing our faith. It’s a time to grow. This Lent, we offer a prayer station in the back of the church as a place to spread before God our cares and desires. This year, we invite you learn about the sandal that expands to accommodate a child’s foot as it grows. Feel free to interact with the shoe, and discover how it works. Invite your child to try the shoe on! The goal of this experience is to educate and to deepen our connection to the needs of those internationally, and to understand that we are all God’s children.
