Try Being Me – free event at St. Stephen’s
Try Being Me – I’m your LGBTQ neighbor
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church invites you to this free event. An LGBTQ panel shares challenges faced in church, community and public policy. The panel includes a transgender man, a gay minister, a parent of a gay child, and a lesbian Latina military veteran. Each will speak for 15-20 minutes followed by Q&A.
St. Stephen’s goal is that all who attend Try Being Me will leave with a new understanding and greater compassion for our neighbors.
St. Stephen’s will serve a complimentary light lunch and encourage all to stay and visit with each other and the speakers. Seating is limited, so please RSVP to email@example.com.
Pre-Event movie screening
The evening before, Friday, October 13 from 7-9 pm, St. Stephen’s will present a free screening of Prayers for Bobby. The film stars Sigourney Weaver and is the true story of Mary Griffith whose teenage son committed suicide due to her religious intolerance. It is based on the book with the same title by Leroy Aarons.
Watch this film in a safe, neighborhood environment. Engage in conversation with others while exploring and challenging our preconceptions.
