Lenten Choral Evensong on March 18, 7 pm
Join us for a very special service of prayer, scripture, and music as we journey through Lent together. The service will be led by the Emerging Artists choir from St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, England.
The St. Martin’s Voices Emerging Artists program provides an opportunity for six singers to enjoy an intensive, focused period of training with others of a similar standard and interests and is an integral part of the exciting choral music program at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. The scheme is aimed at choral singers who are in the first few years of a professional career in singing and wish to develop their skills as choral and consort singers to a high level. Recent highlights have included tours to the USA, the Netherlands and Belgium, alongside recordings and performances at Lambeth Palace, the Houses of Parliament and the Greenbelt Festival.
Choral Evensong is a service of sung evening prayer. The text of the service is drawn almost entirely from the Bible. The main purpose is to proclaim the wonderful works of God in human history, and in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Sung psalms and canticles are interwoven with readings from the Old and New Testaments and the recitation of the Apostles’ Creed and Lord’s Prayer. Other prayers and hymns are drawn from the many centuries of the Christian Church. The congregation is invited to listen reflectively and prayerfully as the choir offers prayer and praise on their behalf. Many find this frees them to offer to God their own thoughts and prayers.
