Epiphany House Blessing

It’s a long-standing Christian tradition to bless homes on Epiphany, recalling the visitation of the Magi to the Holy Family. This year, for the first time, the Rev’s. Alan Bentrup and Paula Jefferson will spend Epiphany eve and day (January 5-6, 2022) visiting and blessing as many parishioners’ homes as they can!

At each house, prayer will be offered and the family will be given the opportunity to mark their home with “20 + C + M + B + 22” in chalk above or near the front door. After the brief blessing, Alan and Paula will hurry off to the next house

The numbers in the marking represent the year, and the letters C M B come from the traditional names for the “three kings” – Caspar, Melchior & Balthazar. Perhaps more importantly the acronym stands for “Christus Mansionem Benedicat,” which means, “May Christ bless this dwelling!”
