Last day for Christian Formation is Sunday, May 22
Christian Formation restarted in Septmeber 2021 with great joy at St. Martin-in-the-Fields after our COVID hiatus!
For adults, we continued our Human Flourishing class on Zoom, which includes folks outside our parish and even from other states. We read challenging texts and discussed how to best be allies in the world, promoting the flourishing of all of God’s beloved.
The Lectionary study group, which re-formed on Zoom during COVID, went live in the Fall. A dedicated group of adults met each week to discuss the lectionary for the coming week.
We also offered two adult Harry Potter courses, where we discussed the first four Harry Potter books in the light of Christianity and our faith traditions. The sections met on Sunday morning between services and on Thursday nights via Zoom.
There was a youth Harry Potter course as well. All of these classes were tied together with video reflections by theologian Rev. Dr. Danielle Hansen.
Youth Christian Formation also began with the excitement of being back together. Our Godly Play room and nursery got updated looks, and we created the Children’s Chapel. Youth of all ages were invited to Children’s Chapel during the sermon to hear parables and sacred stories. Children’s Chapel continues through the summer, and the nursery remains open as well.
Be on the lookout for special “Pop-up Formation” opportunities this summer!
The Fall schedule is still under construction, but we plan to restart on September 11. Look for some favorites to continue and some new options for learning and growing together.
St. Martin’s lectionary study will resume in the fall on Sunday mornings between services. This group explores the appointed readings for the upcoming Sunday. We read and ponder what the Word of God means to us as we share our perspectives and experiences. No preparation is required in advance of our meetings and it is Conducted in person and via zoom.
