The youth of St. Martin’s started Service Sunday in July 2014 with one simple goal: feed the homeless. With lots of help from volunteers, ministries of St. Martin’s and community helpers, Service Sunday has grown into an intergenerational ministry, meeting on the second Sunday of each month to put together and deliver 100 lunches to Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County (UGM).
On Sunday, January 10, Service Sunday more than doubled their efforts by making 207 sack lunches for folks who need a bite to eat during tough times. At 9:30 am, faithful early bird volunteers set up tables and supplies in the school building. After the 10:30 am service, over 50 volunteers gathered to make sandwiches, stuff lunches and decorate lunch sacks to brighten the day of those who would receive a lunch. Volunteers worked hard and by 12:23 pm, all lunches were assembled and out the doors of St. Martin’s. The beauty of this ministry is that it seeks to help people outside church walls, just as Jesus intended; where neighbors help neighbors, near and far. This ministry changes those who give and those who receive forever.
A family making sandwiches is a beautiful thing!

We need your help more than ever in 2016:
- Donate paper napkins and zipper sandwich bags and snack-size zipper bags
- Be an early bird and help set up on February 14 at 9:30 am in the school building (we need more early birds!)
- Be a driver (take sack lunches down to Union Gospel Mission)
- Join us and make sandwiches (jobs for everyone)
- Make a donation to Service Sunday (write a check to St. Martin’s with “Service Sunday” in the memo or make a donation online and choose the pull down menu for “other”, and write “Service Sunday” as your designation)
- Pray for those we make lunches for and the staff and volunteers at UGM
