A look at our new Sunday School class in October 2013

The whole congregation -child through adult – is invited and encouraged to participate in each intergenerational sessions in October. Breakfast will be available at 9:00 a.m., and class will run from 9:15 – 10:15. It will be age appropriate and age friendly—the theme and scripture passage will be the same but the actual study materials will vary. The series is designed to address the five developmental tasks of the interim period of a congregation:

  1. Coming to terms with History
  2. Discovering a New Identity
  3. Leadership Changes during an Interim
  4. Renewing Denominational Linkages
  5. Commitment to New Directions in Ministry

The series, due to the experiential nature of the design, can provide an opportunity to get in touch with just what it can mean to live the interim time more faithfully, both as individuals and as the body of Christ.

The Bible study is comprised of three major parts:

Part One: Who and Where We Were

Using Psalm 107:1-9 and/or John 5:1-17, the participants will delve into the initial impact of the former Rector’s departure and see how the history of St. Martin-in-the-Fields has shaped the congregation and its ministries. In addition, other resource material will be used.

Part Two: Who and Where We Are Now

Participants will begin to name St. Martin-in-the-Fields present identity in light of both its history and the in-breaking future and so be able to have a starting point in order to move into a new direction. This Bible study will use I Corinthians 1:10-17, 26-31 and/or Jeremiah 1:4-10. In addition, other resource material will be used.

Part Three: Who Can We Become and Where Can We Go

Participants will begin to hear God’s call to be the church in newly perceived ways and prepare to be ready for the new Rector and God’s call. This Bible study will use Luke 17:11-19 and/or Matthew 10:5-14. In addition, other resource material will be used.
