IMG_2928-a-omoniyi-600x400We are pleased to announce that Ayo Omoniyi has been admitted to the postulancy by Bishop Scott Mayer of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth. Postulancy is an initial time of preparation and discernment in a journey toward ordained ministry. Bishop Mayer has appointed Ayo to continue his ministry here at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church. We are excited for Ayo and for our church!

What does that mean for him?

Ayo continues to explore a call to use his unique gifts in ordained ministry. The long discernment process in The Episcopal Church is not done alone, in private, but rather with the local rector, other groups and individuals in the wider Church. Ayo actually began this process in the Diocese of Northwest Texas and did three years of study and service before a job relocation moved him to our diocese. He is at the third step of the discernment process in our diocese, shown in orange in the diagram below.

Ayo has discussed his sense of vocation with others at St. Martin’s in a parish discernment group, where he was highly recommended. He was nominated for postulancy by our elected Vestry; they acted on behalf of our congregation. Now he will continue his education, do practical ministry, broaden his experiences, and periodically communicate with the bishop and Father Scot McComas on his academic, spiritual, and personal development.

What does that mean for us?

We are blessed to have Ayo continue ministry and service at our church; we will see him continue to lead in our worship and work among us. We will continue to pray for Ayo, and to support his ministry. His discernment continues through each step of a long process that may lead to ordination.
