Dear St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church and School,
It’s the first day of my senior year at Seminary of the Southwest in Austin. It feels so strange to be entering my third year in the Master of Divinity program. I’d love to say that I feel like I have “mastered” everything I need to know about ministry, but I’m really just on a path of learning that will continue well beyond this seminary season of life.
I’ve returned from a busy summer of time spent with family and friends, an Episcopal preaching conference, and a cross-cultural ministry experience serving women and children from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Toward the end of the summer I participated in a pilgrimage to learn more about the civil rights martyrs of Alabama. I was also awarded a scholarship that included a preaching and entrepreneurial leadership conference at the Church of St. John the Divine in Houston.
Olivia is now in 8th grade at Kealing Middle School and loves choir. Clay is a senior at McCallum High School, studying animation and video game design and is looking towards college. Richard is involved with a group on the seminary campus which supports spouses and partners of seminarians. He helps plan a big crawfish boil on Easter and has the crawfish seasoning down to a science!
I want you to know that your encouragement, prayers, and financial support have sustained me and my family during these seminary years. I am so thankful to you, the people of St. Martin’s and the Diocese of Fort Worth for being a place where I could grow as a follower of Jesus, and respond to that deeper call of God’s desire for my life.
I ask for your continued prayers as we near the “home stretch.” We look forward to the possibility of returning to the diocese and people we love. I pray for God to continue to bless St. Martin’s and the good work you are doing.
In Christ,
Corrie
