Our former Youth Minister Corrie Cabes writes a letter to St. Martin’s from Austin, where she and her family moved so she could attend the Seminary of the Southwest.
Dear St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church & School,
I am so happy to write to you as I journey through this spring semester at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin. It’s definitely spring on campus, with flowers blooming, green leaves sprouting from the gorgeous live oak trees, and even a few of my seminarian friends have adopted puppies. It’s so lovely and sweet to see these fuzzy pups toddling around, finding their way on campus.
My family and I are humbled with your continued financial support that helps us so much. Your prayers, sweet cards, emails, and texts keep us going, knowing we are not on this road alone. I cannot tell you how much this means to us.
We’ve found a home at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, where I will do my field parish work during my middler and senior year. Clay and Olivia are looking forward to a mission trip this summer to Rockport, Texas to help with continued clean up in this hurricane ravaged area. Richard and I are busy this spring welcoming prospective students as part of my work study at SSW. We share a meal, show them around a bit and give them an idea of what seminary life is like. I take students to worship and classes and pray for them as they begin a new path that I know a lot about! We’ve also been adventuring out and catching live music and great local food when we have time. I’ll start clinical pastoral care (CPE) at Seton Hospital in Austin this summer, being attentive to patients and their loved ones while digging deep into clinicals and learning how to be a better pastor. I’m a bit scared and also really looking forward to it. Listening and responding to God’s call has been one of the most life changing blessings. I cannot wait to see what God has planned for me and my family. As we walk through the Lenten wilderness, I am glad to know that the people of St. Martin’s are on this journey with me.
