Dear St. Martin’s Community,
Dennis and I were overwhelmed with the generosity of those of you who contributed to our departure “purse.” Your kindness and generosity have helped us with travel expenses to Arizona and as we set up our new home. We are extremely grateful.
I wanted to write a personal note to each of you who contributed; however, I was told it would be difficult to track those who contributed, so please consider this as my thank-you note to each of you.
Many of you followed our western trek on Facebook as we ventured through West Texas and visited Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico (a life-long dream of mine) and White Sands National Monument, also on my bucket list. We then journeyed west from Las Cruces through southern New Mexico and southern Arizona in territory acquired by the United States from Mexico in the Gadsden Purchase of 1854. We enjoyed reading about the history of the region.
We arrived in the Phoenix area July 30 and the movers showed up the next morning at 6 am sharp. They were finished by 10 am, beating the heat of the day. I began work at The Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Scottsdale on August 13.
I am very excited about your interim rector, the Very Reverend Ron Pogue. As an accredited and trained interim priest myself, I can tell you that Ron is an “interim’s interim.” He is one of the best interim rectors in the Episcopal Church. I know that Fr. Ron will walk with you over the year or so and will be able to guide and support you, your wardens and vestry as you discern the next chapter of your life in Christ.
I continue to pray for St. Martin’s as God makes known the next opportunities of ministry for each of you in your life in Christ.
May God’s Blessings and Peace be with you all,
The Rev. Scot McComas
Third Rector of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church
