Recently, 12 teens from St. Martin’s and one teen from The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer gathered for a youth confirmation retreat on Redeemer’s campus. The teens took time to consider the spiritual journey from baptism to confirmation and got a healthy dose of church history. They walked through the Book of Common Prayer and explored spiritual gifts. Each teen was invited to create a stole to symbolize their call to be ministers in the world, through prayer and service. Stephen Bunt, youth leader at Redeemer and Jacy Lobstein, St. Martin’s volunteer, offered support and leadership at this retreat. Many thanks go to our gracious hosts at Redeemer.
The Rev. Michael Wallens and the Rev. Scot McComas offered a “anything you ever wanted to know” session where teens could ask tough spiritual questions. They also led a worship service that energized our youth and empowered them to move forward in their faith. The two-day retreat ended with a worship service, where youth confirmands gathered with their families for an unforgettable experience. Teens were led in a candle-lit prayer to symbolize the power of the Holy Spirit lighting a new fire in their hearts.
The Rt. Rev. Sam B. Hulsey will visit St. Martin’s on Sunday, April 17 at the 10:30 am service at St. Martin’s for baptism, confirmation, reaffirmation and those being received into the Episcopal church. All candidates will meet with Bishop Hulsey at 9:45 am in the chapel. A reception will follow in the school building.
