At Maker Fun Factory Vacation Bible School June 12-16, we shared five important messages with 88 participants and 36 volunteers: that God made them, that God is for them, that God is always with them, that God will always love them, and that God made them for a reason.
Perhaps one of the one of the most important things that we taught children this VBS week is how to watch for God working in their lives.
I saw God working all throughout the week during VBS. I saw him in the hearts of the volunteers, I saw him in the smiles of the children, I saw him shining through in the stories we shared, and I saw him as the children raised their hands and praised him in song and dance each day. Pretty cool!
There are so many take always from VBS, but the one that will stay with me from this particular VBS was a special moment that happened after Claire Abraham finished sharing a Bible story. As all the children were leaving to attend a different station, one of the boys in the room, about 12 years old, looked at her and asked, “Would you mind if I stayed behind to pray?” He then knelt down and bowed his head and prayed. It brought tears to my eyes. I don’t know what this particular child was praying for, but I know that it was a big prayer and that God was in the room with him listening to what was on his heart.
This moment observed of a child in prayer is why we do what we do each year during VBS. We are so blessed at St. Martin’s to be able to bring this program to our children and to children in our community.
I want to express my deepest thanks to all of you who brought VBS together – from donating supplies, to showing up and helping build the set, to leading stations, to serving as crew leaders, to making tasty snacks – each of you had a hand in a very special experience.
I also want to say thank you for supporting our VBS outreach project— Orange Out. Thanks to your generous donations we were able to fill a van full of prepackaged snacks and treasure box items that will bless families with children battling cancer at Cook Children’s Hospital.
