It is my pleasure to introduce our interim rector, the Reverend Michael Wallens, to our congregation. Father Wallens will begin working with us on the weekend of September 14-15. It has been a wonderful experience interviewing Father Wallens, meeting with his wife, and inviting him to join us in a leadership capacity as we move forward in faith to find a new rector for the future of St. Martin in-the-Fields.  You are invited to meet Father Wallens and his wife Susan after our 10:30am service on Sunday, September  15.  I hope the excitement Father Wallens has brought to the interview committee and vestry continues to spread through our church.  Continue to pray for our faithful community, Father Wallens, and your vestry as we move forward in our search for a new rector.
Thanks for all of your prayers, help and support.

The Rev. Michael Wallens

Originally from Chicago, Father Mike was raised in the Jewish tradition. He took a detour along the way and has been an Episcopal priest since 1978. Father Mike has served in seven Episcopal schools in four states, the most recent being Canterbury Episcopal School in DeSoto, Texas. Fr. Mike has also served in diocesan staff positions in Chicago and served in long-time supply and interim positions in many churches. In addition, he served as chaplain at Kennedy Airport, worked with youth in juvenile detention and various specialty camps as well as served as spiritual director, and spiritual mentoring for those who feel called to ordained ministry.
Father Mike met his wife Susan in college and they have been married for over 40 years. They have two grown sons who live in Austin, Texas, and have two dogs named Waffles and Obadiah to fill their empty nest. Father Mike looks forward to serving St. Martin-in-the Fields and being part of our church community.
