Jeremiah 29:1, 4-13

God called the prophet, Jeremiah, to a forty-two year ministry to the people of Jerusalem, including their time of exile in Babylon; and, they did not want to hear what he had to say. However, Jeremiah stood firm in his commitment and assignment because he had the assurance of God’s blessing and had been told by God “I’ll be with you, Jeremiah”.
So, in this scripture, Jeremiah speaks of what God has told him to tell the exiled — please make the best of the situation. Yes, you have been exiled, but God offers you hope and promises a return to your homeland. God says “I have plans to give you hope and a future” — You will seek me and find me with all your heart.”
Oh, how we try to impact and direct the lives of those we love, and many times to no avail. As we persevere with God-given intentions, we find that many seek to satisfy THEIR wills and not God’s. Many do not seek Him and find Him with all their hearts.
In this Lenten season, with its disciplines and earnest intentions for self- improvement and a closer walk with our Father, we can have the hope to acquire a heart as obedient and loyal as Jeremiah’s.
Father, help us persevere as we seek to follow you and bring others with us. Amen
