St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church invites you to join with us to help people who lack clean, sustainable water for healthy living. Water is a precious and essential resource that too many go without.
We will be raising funds for Episcopal Relief and Development, the international relief and development agency of The Episcopal Church, to build wells. The first $500 will be matched by outreach funds from our church. Please consider giving the gift of water, and place a donation in the copper water jug in the back of church.
Each week we will share more about water and its blessing, or about people who need the gift of water. We encourage you to pray, too; in your daily prayers, lift up those who lack this most basic need for health and life, and for those people who will receive the gift we give.
In the Bible, Genesis, the story of creation, begins with water as a essential part of life, even before animals and plants:
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.
Although water seems like an unlimited resource, a very small percentage of water is drinkable. If all of the water in the world was contained in a basketball, all of the drinkable water would fit in a ping-pong ball. The good news from the US Geologic Society is that there is more water under the earth than there is above ground.
Just as we were blessed with water by God’s creation, we can bless people who do not have access to clean water by contributing to the digging of a well, and we can support their needs for Please give. Please pray.
