A donation of 120 pairs of new men’s shoes was made by St. Martin’s and delivered to Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County (UGM) on October 12. Funding was provided through a grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, making it possible for St. Martin’s to continue the annual donation. The funds also provided a new pair of socks for each new pair of shoes! With heart and sole, we’re helping people put their best foot forward.
The teens in the Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) wrote notes and prayers to be placed in each box of shoes. During their Wednesday night meeting, the EYC, led by youth minister Megan Grant, blessed the shoes and prayed for those who will receive them. Love and compassion for people in need abounds at our church.
Lezlee Kinney, volunteer coordinator at UGM, indicated that there was a lot of excitement with the men as they awaited delivery of the shoes! It is an opportunity for each man to pick out either tennis shoes or work boots. The shoes are often chosen for the type of work the men do as part of the residence program.
