Deacon Henry Penner’s retirement celebration

The Rev. Henry Penner is planning to retire! Henry’s last work weekend will be January 13-14, 2018. Please save the date and plan to come to his retirement celebration at 12 pm Sunday, January 14. Henry has served as a deacon at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church since his ordination on November 2, 2012, and we are grateful for his over five years of loving service among us.

He has been a member of St. Martin’s since 1992, long before he accepted God’s call to ordained ministry. As our deacon, Henry has taught classes, done hospital visits and assisted with our outreach efforts in addition to his visible roles in worship: preaching, reading the Gospel, serving at the Lord’s Table, and sending us forth with the dismissal, “Friends, our worship has ended and now our service begins.”

In our diocese, he has served on various committees and worked with those discerning a call to ministry. He assisted in the startup of the 4Saints Episcopal Food Pantry, an initiative supported by our Deanery. In the last year he retired from a long career as an insurance producer/risk manager for Wortham Insurance in Ft. Worth.

Henry will be serving as chaplain at Baylor Grapevine for a day or two each week, with our bishop’s blessing.

We wish Henry well as he settles into retirement, and we look forward to when we see him and his family at worship in a pew.
