Sunday School for 6th – 12th grade
At St. Martin in-the-Fields, we know teens and preteens are done with crafts, and when it comes to music, well, it has to be their kind of music, and as for teaching, well, it just has to be relevant. They want hearty spiritual food. They crave a place to feel welcome, a place to spit out questions in a relaxed social environment.
Our curriculum,"Coexist", developed in-house, brings 6th – 12th graders together in a comparative world religions forum for discussion, guest speakers, food, culture and field trips. Together we explore and strengthen our own faith as Christians and Episcopalians, and examine major world religions, religious practices, beliefs, and the cultural expressions of each religion’s followers. Each Sunday, we kick back in the comfy chairs and couches of our youth room couches with a snack and a drink in a relaxed setting.
Why Sunday School for busy, bigger kids who have trouble getting out of bed?
…learn more about God and how special a relationship with Him is.
So youth can…
…learn to incorporate God into their everyday life.
…develop Christian skills for coping with stress and problems in school and life.
…learn fundamentals from the Bible.
…learn to think for themselves and express their thoughts.
…be a part of a safe circle of friends that listens and cares.
…have positive interactions with Christian adults other than family members.
…be comfortable with prayer.
…feel that they are the Church, not simply junior members in the Body of Christ.
More Info:
Sunday School concludes when the class discussion and community prayers are complete. Most often class continues after communion, with students returning to the youth room to wrap up discussion and pray. Sometimes teenagers will join their parents for communion and remain in church. Each week can be different. Parents with teenagers know how that goes!
Please join us after the 10:30 service for coffee hour so your teens and pre-teens can snack some more or hang out in the youth room, and so you can meet families who also have middle-school and high-school kids.
Our Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) is an active community of kids in 6th through 12th grade. Meetings during the school year are usually twice a month from Noon-2:30.
You are welcome to observe at any time.
