Sunday School
4 yrs. old – 5th grade
At St. Martin in-the-Fields, we design our Sunday School programming to encompass the whole child: the spiritual, the emotional, the intellectual, the creative and the social. Sunday School for young children breaks into two groups: 4 years old – 2nd grade and 3rd – 5th grades and it meets during the 10:30 a.m. service in the Christian Education building. Parents are asked to check their children in at the welcome table before church then children will return to church to have communion with their families.
Godly Play
4 years old – 2nd grade
Godly Play is the fun and engaging way we teach some of our youngest children the sacred stories and parables of the Bible. This unique, Montessori-style approach invites children to wonder about themselves, God, and their world in a way that is meaningful to them.
Storytelling Sunday School
3rd - 5th grade
Jesus taught with stories and so do we! Using high-quality children’s literature, our elementary-age children connect with the Christian themes that inform our lives: love, tolerance, patience, honesty, courage, and more. Hands-on Bible time reinforces the lesson for the day.
Sunday School also includes:
Singing – Children learn religious music – classical and contemporary – from the members of our talented Music Team. They will perform in the sanctuary on a periodic basis.
Episcopalian Tradition – Once a month we hold Children’s Chapel concurrent with the 10:30 a.m. service. The children are invited to participate in all parts of this mini-service: as readers, acolytes and ushers. As the service unfolds, the Worship Leader takes the time to explain what’s happening and why.
Making Friends – We place a high priority on the children getting to know each other; we want your child to feel like he or she belongs here!
Why Sunday School?
So Children can...

…build a relationship with Jesus; build a relationship with God.
…learn to incorporate the spiritual into their everyday life.
…learn the fundamentals of the Bible: sacred stories, parables and verses.
…have positive interactions with Godly adults other than family members.
…develop skills for coping in school, in life.
…reinforce character traits such as honesty, generosity, loyalty, kindness.
…learn to think for themselves.
…be a part of a safe circle of friends.
…be comfortable with prayer.
…celebrate with good music.
…discover what it means to be Episcopalian.
…feel a connection with the larger church.
Remember:
Sunday School concludes with the children returning to church to join their families for communion.
The 10:30 service is Saint Martin in-the-Fields’ “kid-friendly” service. A little extra noise from the pews is expected!
Please join us after the 10:30 service for coffee hour so can meet other families like yourselves.
